What's New | Ravings | SCA | Myth | Computer Shows

Hi, My name is Tananda... okay, it's really Robin, but that's not nearly as much fun. This side of my web page is full of the comings and goings of my regular work-a-day life.

So, not to bore you to tears, but I'm the Webmaster and Network Admin for a small DotCom Startup. I have lived in Massachusetts for all of my life, except for a brief stint as First Mate on a 75' sail boat called Southern Cross. I have spent some time in Hawaii, and Toronto and have some Kick-Ass Photos to show off for it (Maybe some day I will actually post some of them.) However, my absolute favorite place in the whole world is London. Unfortunately, I don't have very many pictures from there for two important reasons...

  1. I hate being a typical tourist, and thus, I tended to avoid walking around with my cameras
  2. and more importantly: I spent most of my time there in pubs and nightclubs where picture-taking is discouraged

I truly believe that the Television is the most evil and addictive drug in the universe, and wholly admit that I am hooked on Dead Like Me, Carnivale, Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, Battlestar Galactica, Doctor Who, Spaced, Survivor (Guilty Pleasure there), The Amazing Race (another slightly less guilty pleasure), AbFab (Absolutely Fabulous for those of you not in-the-know), and just about anything on Discovery, Science Channel, Discovery Times, NGC, TLC, and any other documentary you can mention. Having all those favorites, I need a Replay TV to watch them for me. (Now, if I could just get an electric monk to believe in all of it for me, I'd be set.)

I used to spend a LOT of time in front of the computer; even outside of work, but to be honest, I'm a bit burnt out on it lately. I never thought it would happen, but my PeeCee has become something of a utility or a tool instead of a reason for existing. (Okay, so I do quite enjoy Half-Life, Half-Life 2, Diablo II, and Neverwinter Nights). I tend to have a love/hate relationship with my PC and/or X-Box... I'm either impossible to tear away from them, or I could care less.

At the moment, I'm staying away from both as much as possible.

A friend got me into playing Texas Hold'em, and I must admit to a certain perverse enjoyment of that game. I started out playing Poki-Poker, an excellent limit, no-limit, tournament, and head-to-head simulator. Not long after that, I went to Foxwoods Casino (the first time I had ever set foot in a casino in my life) and had a damn good time playing $2/$4 Hold 'em. Since then, I've been playing $02/$04 Hold'em online at Paradise Poker and haven't done too badly. I like playing in an actual casino better than online or against my computer, but only do that every few months.

I'm an avid reader of Sci-Fi (SF for those symantics Nazis out there) and Fantasy. David Eddings, Terry Pratchett, and Robert Asprin are my favorite fantasy authors, and Douglas Adams, Alan Dean Foster, Robert Silverberg and William Gibson are some of my favorite Sci-Fi authors.

I'm also a sucker for certain types of NonFiction. Mostly, theoretical physics and computer/technology stuff.

Recently, I've become a subscriber to Make Magazine. They just started publishing, and I've only gotten the premier issue, but so far, it's pretty darn cool. I have high hopes for it. Now that the weather's getting warmer, maybe I'll get out of the house and down to Radio Shack & Home Depot to get the parts to build some of that totally cool, kina useless stuff.

Yeah, real interesting, ain't it?

What can I say, I'm a geek... a morbid one at that. My favorite online haunts include: Foamy the Squirrel (NSFW), This is a Cry for Help (Totally NSFW), SlashDot (News for Nerds, Stuff that Matters), The Register (Biting the hand that feeds IT), Fark, Real Life Comics, Player Vs Player, and 2600

I used to be a regular at The Haven (Tuesday Night Goth event in Northampton, MA) though I only visit occasionally nowadays. When Motivated enough, you'll hind me in Hell at ManRay in Caimbridge.

My best friends, Ivi, Elf, Sam, Drew, Jon, and Geoff live in New Hampshire, so I spend a lot of weekends up there. We're Friday night regulars at Club 313 in Manchester where I tend to embarass myself trying to sing Kareoke. Several of us are currently teaching ourselves how to Contact Juggle.
